“You are here for a reason.”

exhale

After holding our breathe for months, we finally exhale at the end of an exhausting election. While many celebrate, many others are heartbroken or saddened with the outcome. My concern for the next four years is not how much more money I will get in my pocket or how much fewer taxes I will have to pay. My greatest concern is for the sanctity of life that we must pray for now each day. God cannot continue to “look the other way” for a nation that claims “one nation under God” but destroys the lives of 3,200 children every day. So what are we to do? In thinking and praying this morning, several things come to my mind.

1. Romans 13:1 says that “there is not authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.” God is still in control, has a plan, and is fuilfilling it today. As Christians, we must be aware what that plan is.

2. Pray. Regularly. Everyday. For those in governing positions over us and especially for the church in our country

3. Get focused as a gazelle. I have been reading some Dave Ramsey on finances. He makes an interesting comment about getting rid of your debt and says you must get focused like a gazelle. Meaning nothing else is in your vision but this one goal and all of your energy goes into making it happen. I beleive this is the time for the church to get focused in this same manner. We no longer have time for the frills that simply entertain us or meet our personal needs. We need to get focused on making disciples and reaching the lost around us. If we knew that in 2 or 4 or 6 years Jesus would return for his church, what things would we invest our time, energy and resources in and what would get dropped by the wayside? We have to shed our self absorption and self gratification and everything and anything related to self and let it die. We must starve it, deny it and crucify it. then only those things that are primary focus to God and the church will surface and those things will receive our full attention. Sadly though most Christians and churches will not do this. The Bible says that Jesus’ return will come as a thief in the night and catch many off guard and I beleive this will include many beleivers and churches. Let us awake and be vigilant.
